Technical requirements for online banners

Would you like to deliver your own online banners? Bellow is all the relevant information on creation and delivery.

Delivery and contact

Please send your advertising material as a ZIP file by e-mail to your account manager.

The following information should be included in the e-mail:

  • Customer name
  • Campaign name
  • Period of the campaign
  • Advertising material files
  • Contact person for queries

Deadline for delivery: At least 7 working days before the start of the campaign.

Technical specifications for online banners

Online banners can be static or animated and are integrated into the natural reading flow for users on websites.

Important notes:

  • Animated advertising media may run for a maximum of 30 seconds, after which the banner must stop.
  • The advertising material must be clearly recognizable as advertising and stand out from the background (no white background without a frame). Advertising material may not be designed like editorial content (e.g. articles).
  • File formats: JPEG, PNG, GIF, HTML5
  • Maximum file size for initial loading: 150 kB, maximum reload 300 kB

Requirements for the design

Note for mobile banners:
  • Use a sans serif font (e.g. Arial)
  • High-contrast colors for better readability
  • Minimum font size: 9 pt (at least 18 pt for high-resolution advertising material)
Call-to-action
  • Must be clearly recognizable (e.g. as a button or highlighted text)
  • Should be formulated clearly and be motivating (“Try now!” instead of “Click here”)
  • Should be repeated on the landing page
Further design tips
  • Clear message: The banner should be understandable at first glance.
  • Clear structure:
    • Who is advertising? → Place logo visibly
    • What is being advertised? → Present product or offer clearly
    • Why should I click? → Communicate USP or incentive
    • What should I do? → Highlight call-to-action
  • Design consistent with the landing page to avoid confusion

Requirements for the target page

  • The target URL must be functional and lead to an active website.
  • It must not link to an e-mail address or a file download page.
  • Ads must not trigger unwanted downloads or installations.
  • Fake advertising material (e.g. imitation error messages) is not permitted.
  • The logo in the advertising material must match the logo on the target page.

Testing and approval

  • Advertising material that does not comply with the technical or content specifications cannot be displayed.
  • Delays due to late or incorrect delivery can lead to a postponement of the campaign start.
  • If the advertising material has to be checked several times, additional costs may be incurred.
